At the Jorge Mas Canosa Freedom Foundation, we strongly believe in celebrating Cuban heritage and empowering the future generation of Cuban-Americans. Our scholarship program aims to recognize and reward outstanding academic achievement, leadership potential, and a commitment to community service. We are passionate about helping talented individuals who embody the spirit of our Cuban community.

Mas Family Scholarships

The Jorge Mas Canosa Freedom Foundation:  Mas Family Scholarships will accept applications from October 15, 2023, until January 15, 2024.  We invite all eligible candidates to apply for this prestigious opportunity to receive financial assistance in achieving their higher education goals.

  • Cuban Descent: Students are eligible to apply for a Mas Family Scholarship if they were born in Cuba or are of direct Cuban descent.

    Academic Excellence: Have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

    Leadership and Community Involvement: Applicants should demonstrate leadership potential and involvement in community service activities.

    Financial Need: While not the primary consideration, financial need will be considered during the selection process.

  • Scholarship awards vary based on financial need. The financial need is determined by a specific formula that determines the applicant and their family's financial situation in terms of how much they can contribute. Mas Family Scholars may receive a scholarship for up to four years of college.

  • Mas Family Scholars must enroll full-time in an accredited college or university while pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree. Scholars must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher.

  • Proof of Cuban descent: Examples include Birth Certificate, Parent/Grandparent Birth Certificate, Citizenship Certificate, or other valid identification.

    Personal Statement (max 500 words): Outline your academic achievements, leadership experiences, and community involvement. Explain how receiving the Mas Family Scholarship will enable you to further your educational and professional aspirations.

    Resume: Highlight student, professional, or community organizations in which you have been active, hobbies, academic honors, employment history, and foreign languages that you read and speak.

    Academic Information: Provide your transcript and test scores.

    FAFSA Student Aid Report: Upload a copy of your Student Aid Report.

    Recommendation: Contact Information for three individuals recommending you for the Mas Family Scholarship.

    Essay: Submit a 1,000-word essay response on the topic provided on the application form.

    Early Spring: Finalist Interviews

    April 2024: Mas Family Scholarship recipients announced.
